The Prevention Of Sexual Disorders

by C. Qualls, The Prevention Of Sexual Disorders Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Prevention Of Sexual Disorders book, As new faculty members in the Section of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Brown University, we began collaborating on research into assessment and treatment of sexual problems in the fall of 1975. Although each of us arrived with clinical and research in terests in the broad field of sexual problems, the idea for this book grew out of our early discussions and a consensus on the future direction of research. We noted that there had been an extremely rapid increase in knowledge of human sexual behavior as well as sexual disorders and their treatment over the last few decades. It has also become increasingly apparent that sexual problems, broadly conceived, comprise a sizable fraction of the problems for which people seek treatment, and that, although the treatment of sexual problems was achieving some success, treatment was for the most part slow, costly, and without any guarantee of successful outcome. Furthermore, there were many people with sexual prob lems for whom treatment was not available. With these ideas in mind, it seemed timely for investigators in the field of human sex uality and its disorders to turn their attention to the problem of prevention. Organizing a symposium on the topic enabled us to invite leading investigators in the study of sexual behavior to address this area. The chapters in this volume are an outgrowth and refinement of the formal papers delivered at the symposium, which was held in the spring of 1976.

Stepped Care And E Health

by William O'Donohue, Stepped Care And E Health Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Stepped Care And E Health book, Stepped care provides the least intrusive intervention to individuals seeking treatment by providing a range of treatment intensities. In the past two decades, computers and the internet have provided a new and efficient medium that lends well to adding steps in a stepped-care model. While there is ample evidence to support the positive effects of bibliotherapy or self-help books, computer-aided therapy (also known as e-health) has the potential to take these effects even further. This volume will be of interest to practitioners and organizations attempting to serve rural and underserved communities. The book focuses on evidence-based treatment, making it consistent with quality improvement initiatives.

The Prevention Of Eating Problems And Eating Disorders

by Michael P. Levine, The Prevention Of Eating Problems And Eating Disorders Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Prevention Of Eating Problems And Eating Disorders book, This is the first authored volume to offer a detailed, integrated analysis of the field of eating problems and disorders with theory, research, and practical experience from community and developmental psychology, public health, psychiatry, and dietetics. The book highlights connections between the prevention of eating problems and disorders and theory and research in the areas of prevention and health promotion; theoretical models of risk development and prevention (e.g., developmental psychopathology, social cognitive theory, feminist theory, ecological approaches); and related research on the prevention of smoking and alcohol use. It is the most comprehensive book available on the study of prevention programs, especially for children and adolescents. The authors review the spectrum of eating problems and disorders, the related risk and protective factors, the models that have guided prevention efforts to date, the literature on the studies of prevention, and suggestions for curriculum and program development and evaluation. The book concludes with a new prevention program based on the Feminist Ecological Developmental model. The 800 + references highlight work done around the world. The Prevention of Eating Problems and Eating Disorders addresses: * methodologies for assessing and establishing prevention; * the implications of neuroscience for prevention; * dramatic increases in the incidence of obesity; * the role of boys, men, and the media on body image; * prevention programming for minority groups; and * whether to focus on primary or secondary prevention. Intended for clinicians and academicians from disciplines such as health, clinical, developmental, and community psychology; social work; medicine; and public health; this book is also an ideal text for advanced courses on eating disorders.

Potentiating Health And The Crisis Of The Immune System

by S. Fulder, Potentiating Health And The Crisis Of The Immune System Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Potentiating Health And The Crisis Of The Immune System book, With all the enormous resources that are invested in medicine, it is sometimes a mystery why there is so much sickness still in evidence. Our life span, though higher than at any time in history, has now leveled off and has not significantly increased in the last two generations. There is a one-third increase in long-term illness in the last 20 years and a 44% increase in cancer incidence, which are not related to demographic issues. In some modern countries, the level of morbidity (defined as days off work because of sickness) has increased by two thirds in this time. Despite $1 trillion spent on cancer research in 20 years, the "War On Cancer" has recently been pronounced a complete failure by the u. s. President's Cancer Panel. Evidently we still have a long way to go. The goal of "Health for All by the Year 2000" as the World Health Organization has put it, is another forgotten dream. As ever, the answer will be found in breaking out of the old philosophical patterns and discovering the new, as yet unacceptable concepts. The problems of medicine today require a Kuhnian breakthrough into new paradigms, and new ways of thinking. And these new ways will not be mere variations of the old, but radical departures. This book, and the conference upon which it was based, is part of a search for these new pathways.
