Designing Conducting And Publishing Quality Research In Mathematics Education

by Keith R. Leatham, Designing Conducting And Publishing Quality Research In Mathematics Education Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Designing Conducting And Publishing Quality Research In Mathematics Education book, The purpose of this book is to collect, organize and disseminate collective wisdom with respect to designing, conducting, and publishing quality research in mathematics education. This wisdom will be gleaned from among those who, over the past several decades, have been instrumental in guiding the field in the pursuit of excellence in mathematics education research—insightful editors, educative reviewers, prolific writers, and caring mentors. Each chapter is written to the novice researcher with the intent of aiding them in avoiding common pitfalls, navigating difficult intellectual terrain, and understanding that they are not alone in experiencing rejection, frustration, confusion, and doubt. This book differs from existing literature in the sense that it is written about the enterprise of designing, conducting and publishing research in mathematics education as opposed to being reports of the results of such work. It also differs in the sense that it is written with the intent to mentor the rising generation as opposed to capture the state of the field (as would happen in a handbook, for example). It is written for the express purpose of helping the field work collectively to aid in the often isolated enterprise of mentoring new researchers. The primary audience is a potentially wide one: graduate students, novice researchers, graduate faculty, advisors, and mentors – or anyone seeking to improve their own abilities to design, conduct, and publish quality research in mathematics education.

Designing Authenticity Into Language Learning Materials

by Frieda Mishan, Designing Authenticity Into Language Learning Materials Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Designing Authenticity Into Language Learning Materials book, This book puts forward an authenticity-centred approach to the design of materials for language learning. The premise of the approach is that language learning should be based on authentic materials drawn from a variety of genres found in the target language culture, and that the learning tasks involving these materials should be correspondingly authentic, by entailing interactions that are consistent with the original communicative purpose of the authentic text. It provides both a theoretical grounding to the authenticity-centred approach, and demonstrates its practical application in a teaching task reference section. In outline, the book: • Refines a definition of authenticity in the context of language pedagogy. • Traces the historical background to authenticity in language learning back over one millennium. • Grounds the use of authentic materials in language learning in L2 acquisition research. • Gives a critical analysis of the authenticity of contemporary language study course-books. • Discusses the use of seven authentic genres for language learning; broadcasting, newspapers, advertisements, music and song, film, literature and ICT (information and communications technology).

Productive Group Work

by Nancy Frey, Productive Group Work Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Productive Group Work book, The benefits of collaborative learning are well documented--and yet, almost every teacher knows how group work can go wrong: restless students, unequal workloads, lack of accountability, and too little learning for all the effort involved. In this book, educators Nancy Frey, Douglas Fisher, and Sandi Everlove show you how to make all group work productive group work: with all students engaged in the academic content and with each other, building valuable social skills, consolidating and extending their knowledge, and increasing their readiness for independent learning. The key to getting the most out of group work is to match research-based principles of group work with practical action. Classroom examples across grade levels and disciplines illustrate how to * Create interdependence and positive interaction * Model and guide group work * Design challenging and engaging group tasks * Ensure group and individual accountability * Assess and monitor students' developing understanding (and show them how to do the same) * Foster essential interpersonal skills, such as thinking with clarity, listening, giving useful feedback, and considering different points of view. The authors also address the most frequently asked questions about group work, including the best ways to form groups, accommodate mixed readiness levels, and introduce collaborative learning routines into the classroom. Throughout, they build a case that productive group work is both an essential part of a gradual release of responsibility instructional model and a necessary part of good teaching practice.

Bioethische Urteilsbildung Im Religionsunterricht

by Monika E. Fuchs, Bioethische Urteilsbildung Im Religionsunterricht Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Bioethische Urteilsbildung Im Religionsunterricht book, English summary: This empirical study examines concepts and categories of pupils' bioethical decision making as well as how decision-making processes are linked to differing learning environments. While focusing on religious and educational implications, key points of prenatal diagnostics as well as substantial (bio-)ethical theories are first put forward. Then, results of research on classroom teaching are presented concerning both individual and cooperative learning. Based on this theoretical background, the qualitative research is outlined and data are analysed according to the methods of Grounded Theory. The results of the study are reviewed and structured into two fields: 1) the moral status of the human embryo and 2) social attitudes about disability. Further results are related to the pupils' behavioral learning processes as well as to the teachers' verbal abilities. The final discussion of results identifies important didactic perspectives for bioethical learning and offers some implications for research methods on classroom teaching.
